“I’d describe Sweet Louise in three words – friendship, support and hope,” says Colleen.
Colleen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After undergoing a full mastectomy and reconstruction, she had six years cancer-free. Then, in a heartbreaking turn, she discovered the cancer had returned, leading to a double mastectomy.
Colleen embraced life fully, even taking her family on a wonderful overseas holiday. But in November 2023, upon her return, she received devastating news – the cancer had spread to her bones, and she was diagnosed with advanced, incurable breast cancer.
Despite everything, Colleen remains determined to live life on her terms. “I’m still me, people – don’t ignore me! I’m living my life the best I can. Some days are tougher than others. There are times you need to just wallow and have a good cry. And that’s OK too.”
She first discovered Sweet Louise through her oncologist and has found connection and joy in our group support meetings. “The Sweet Louise meetings are far too much fun to be called a meeting! You’re with a group of people who truly understand, and the camaraderie is wonderful. I’ve met some lovely ladies.”
“My Sweet Louise Support Coordinator is amazing too. I’ve cried a lot of tears on her shoulder and had loads of hugs. It’s just nice having someone who understands. I can’t thank her enough.”
Colleen also volunteers at the Sweet Louise office, where she helps friends like you – those who make all our work possible.
“I am very grateful to all those who donate to Sweet Louise. Having this support means the world to me, and I want to do whatever I can to make sure the support is there for every woman who needs it, when she needs it most,” adds Colleen.
“Thank you for the care you give to those living with incurable breast cancer. People like you make people like me feel loved and supported.”
